Parks and Cons Supporters, Assemble!Thank you for checking out our small attempt to fight homelessness! In 2014, Parks and Cons Editor-in-Charge, Carmelle Marshall, decided to test her superhero potential by taking on the inaugural Avengers Half-Marathon, at the Disneyland Resort. It was a difficult battle, but she survived and ignited a fire at Parks and Cons HQ to get more involved in the charity running scene. So, in 2015, Chief Content Creator, Shawn Marshall, will join her on the pavement of Anaheim; but this time, the goal is to not only fight fatigue but also the poverty and homelessness. Shawn spent 7 years of his youth homeless and has worked with many youth in similar poverty during his adult life. Meanwhile, Carmelle spent the first half of her professional career helping families stay off the street. Now, they unite their powers to fight this plague together. Join us in assembling to fight the scourge of homelessness in America by donating to Back on My Feet. We'll do the running (or maybe walking) and continue our donations but we ask your help in helping us build a mighty team of supporters so that we can all share in fighting for good and getting young families off of the streets of America and into sustainable jobs and homes.
Unleash your powers of good and let's assemble to make a difference! ABOUT BACK ON MY FEET
"For the Residential Members in our program, running is the first step along a road that leads to independence." - Anne Mahlum, Founder
Changing Lives One Mile, Job and House at a Time
Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national for-purpose 501(c)3 organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives that results in employment and independent living. The organization’s mission is not to create runners within the homeless population, but to use running to create self-sufficiency in the lives of those experiencing homelessness. The program’s success is measured by how many Members obtaining independence through employment, job training and housing. Through dedication and hard work, Residential Members (those experiencing homelessness) earn the opportunity to create a new road for themselves. Running leads to personal transformation and dedication to the program leads to access to training, employment and housing resources. Through community and corporate support, the program strives to change the perception of homelessness. |
